Common questions
Spool says it cannot see my photos
Spool needs permission to read your Photos library. Open Settings, then Spool (on a Mac: System Settings, Privacy and Security, Photos) and choose Full Access, or Limited Access and pick the photos you want to use.
Does Spool change or delete my photos?
No. Spool only reads your photos and videos. It adds a finished movie or GIF to Photos only when you tap Save to Photos.
Where are my drafts and finished movies?
They are kept privately inside the app, in Archive. Finished movies stay there until you delete them, so you can save or share them again later.
Can I use one of my albums instead of scrolling?
Yes. Tap the filter button at the top left and choose an album. Quick movie then works from that album too.
How big will my movie be?
The Make screen shows an estimated size next to the title. Choose Small for Messages and email, Standard for sharing, or Best to keep.
The preview or export fails on a very long movie
Try Small quality, fewer clips, or turn off Steady. If it keeps happening, email us with the number of clips and your device.
Why does a place name show on a clip?
If a photo has a location saved and you turn on Place, Spool looks up a name for it using Apple's location service. Turn Place off to stop the lookup.
How do I delete my data?
Spool keeps nothing on any server. Deleting the app removes its drafts and finished movies from your device.
