Sky Warden is built to be private. There are no accounts, no tracking, and no ads. We don't build a profile of you, and we don't sell or share your data with advertisers — because we don't collect it in the first place.
If you allow it, Sky Warden uses your device location to fetch and reconcile weather for where you are. Your coordinates are sent to the weather data providers listed below solely to retrieve a forecast for that point. Location is not linked to your identity, is not used for tracking, and is not retained beyond the short-lived cache that lets the app show your last forecast quickly. You can also search for a place instead of using your location, and you can revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings.
If you grant calendar access, Sky Warden reads your upcoming events entirely on your device to flag weather that may affect outdoor plans (for example a beach day or a hike). Your calendar events are never transmitted off your device and are never sent to us or to any third party. Calendar access is optional and the rest of the app works without it.
Optional rain-approaching notifications are evaluated on your device from the forecast data. We do not operate a server that pushes marketing or profiling notifications to you.
To reconcile a forecast, your location coordinates (and nothing that identifies you) are sent to public weather and astronomy data providers, which may include: Open-Meteo, Apple WeatherKit, OpenWeather, WorldTides, RainViewer, NASA GIBS, national meteorological and emergency services, and grid-carbon providers (Open Electricity, UK Carbon Intensity) where available. Some requests are routed through a lightweight proxy we operate purely to attach provider API keys; the proxy does not log requests to build a profile of you. Each provider handles data under its own privacy terms.
Your settings (units, preferences) and a cache of recent forecasts and map tiles are stored locally on your device using standard iOS storage. Removing the app removes this data.
Sky Warden is rated 4+ and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
