The register
Every person of this surname, and every spouse and parent of one, met in the course of the research — searchable, grouped by the spelling the record used, with the source that names each one. This is the raw catch, not a family tree, and most of it is not this family.
131 entries for 118 distinct names, 5 of them with a link to the source that names them; the other 126 say in the Source column why no link exists.
Read this before you read the list
The surname is rare. Forebears counts about 2,124 Lerenas worldwide, with the highest density anywhere in Uruguay — the signature of a small founding group that emigrated. At that scale most people carrying the name probably are related to one another at some depth. But “probably related” is not evidence, and a shared surname is not a relationship.
Most entries here come from surname sweeps — every Lerena in the CEMLA arrival index, in the Argentine national censuses of 1869 and 1895, in the Uruguayan and Argentine parish and civil registers, in the South African death, estate and cemetery indexes. They are here because they were found, not because they are kin. None is claimed as kin.
The list is grouped by the spelling the record used — Lerena, Llerena, Larena, Lorena, Lerina — because the spelling is evidence in itself: it is how a clerk heard the name, and the clerks disagreed. Names in other groups are spouses and parents who married in or are named alongside.
Three marks are used. Connected — proven to the direct line. Excluded — checked and shown not to belong. Unplaced — found, recorded, and honestly unresolved. Most are unplaced, and that is the point of the page.
The moment more of Pablo Armando’s people are named, this becomes the place to look — several of these may snap into position at once, and the work of finding them will already have been done. The card that named his parents →

| Armando LERENA Unplaced · high interest | 1884 · Uruguay (nationality "Oriental" on the manifest) · Uruguayan · found in Buenos Aires -> Montevideo *** THE ONLY OTHER ARMANDO LERENA FOUND ANYWHERE IN THE RIVER PLATE. *** Entry 28 on a Buenos Aires - Montevideo crossing, January/February 1910: aged 26, married, and the clerk wrote his nationality in the manifest itself as "Oriental" - Uruguayan. Read from the image, not the index. NOT Pablo Armando on the evidence: wrong nationality, two years out on the age, and in 1910 Pablo Armando was at the Cape and did not marry until September 1911. But an Armando Lerena of almost exactly his age, Uruguayan, is the shape a brother or a cousin would have. | no public link Uruguay, Passenger Lists 1888-1980; index ark 1:1:QPWH-BN11, image ark 3:1:3Q9M-CS73-G9MX-6 |

LARENA 13
| Name | What the source says | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Antonio LARENA Excluded | Argentine? · found in Cayasta, Garay, Santa Fe *** RETRACTED. Cayasta was an ITALIAN COLONY - the register runs Laurini x5, Lauron, Castelarin, Masorini, Panluzzi, Gaetta, Salvaserra. The same mother is transcribed 'Ines Azela' for one child and 'Ines Raiela' for the other, so the indexer could not read the name. 'Larena' here is almost certainly an Italian surname mis-rendered. The apparent cluster is a transcription artefact. *** | FamilySearch index — ark not recorded for this entry Argentina Baptisms - children Maria (19 Jul 1890) and Carmela (10 Sep 1892) |

LORENA 7

|---|---|---|
| Agustin LORENA Unplaced | 1829 · Argentine · found in Rosario, Santa Fe *** CORRECTED: there is NO household. The image of Bartolome Llerena's page shows twelve unrelated individuals, each separately numbered; the Lorena/Lorona entries are elsewhere in the census, not with him. The earlier 'family that moved Cordoba to Rosario' reading was mine and was wrong. *** | FamilySearch index — ark not recorded for this entry 1869 census, Rosario |
| ARMAND[O] LORENA (as machine-indexed) = Pablo Armando LERENA Connected | 1882-02-22 · Rosario, Santa Fe · Argentine · found in Argentina *** RESOLVED - THIS IS PABLO ARMANDO HIMSELF. *** The image was opened on 10 Sep 2026 and the card reads 'Clase de 1882 / LERENA - Pablo Armando / hijo de Juan Carlos Lerena y de Maria Lerena / Nacido en Rosario de Santa Fe / Oficina enroladora de CAPETOWN'. The machine index had dropped 'Pablo', moved him 1,400 km to Salta, turned Lerena into Lorena, and made a second surname 'Serena' out of the printed word SERIE on the next line. Every one of the four objections logged against this candidate was an artefact of the transcription. Kept in the register under its indexed name so the false trail stays visible. | record ↗ Argentina Military Records 1911-1936 (machine-indexed) |

| Laurensa LERINA Excluded | 1830 · Italian · agricultor · found in arr. 1889-03-15 *** EXCLUSION RE-EXAMINED 13 Sep 2026 and NARROWED. *** She cannot be anyone sought: arriving 1889, aged 59, seven years after Pablo Armando was born at Rosario, in a party containing no Juan Carlos and no Maria. THAT is the reason, and it rests on facts in the index. The older note also asserted that 'LERINA here is an Italian surname, not a variant of the Spanish Lerena' - a claim about the NAME rather than the people, made without opening the manifest, and of exactly the kind that got the Armando Lorena card wrong. It is withdrawn as a reason; the exclusion stands on the dates alone. | CEMLA results are not addressable — search the surname at cemla.com/buscador/ CEMLA, ship ADELAIDE LAVARELLO from Genova |

Why keep a list of people who are probably not us
Because the alternative is finding them twice. Every one of these cost a search, and a search that is not written down has to be paid for again. When a record turns up a Juan Carlos, or a Lerena at Rosario, or a family that moved between the two banks of the Plate, the question will be whether this archive has met them before — and this is the only page that can answer it.
