Elizabetha van der Merwe
The second wife of Petrus Jacobus Booysen (b. 1788), and a name this archive did not have until her son’s 1908 death notice was read. The first wife, Anna Maria van der Merwe, died before March 1825; this son was born about June 1828. Two van der Merwe wives, one after the other — which is why the eight children on the 1876 Sterfkennis cannot all be drawn under one marriage.

…The same pattern one generation earlier: an unrecorded second marriage." The second marriage is no longer unrecorded. The mother is Elizabetha van der Merwe , and the son's own age on the form — seventy-nine years eleven months at 11 May 1908 — puts his birth at about June 1828, three years after the first wife died. Two van der Merwe wives, one after the other. The contradiction was never a contradiction; it was a missing row. And it repairs something this page has been apologising for.…

A dossier is every mention of a person anywhere in this archive, gathered automatically after the site is built and linked back to the page it appears on. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual — where two people share a name they share this page, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Nothing on a dossier page is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.
