What the registers say
- a near-miss, recorded so it is not mistaken for one — Oct 1812 , Arienzo, strada Camellara “A WARNING, NOT A FINDING. The Arienzo death register for 1812 records, with declarants of strada Camellara: «…del mese corrente di Ottobre, ad ore una della notte, [è morta] GIOVANNA MARRONE, VEDOVA D'ANTONIO LETTIERO, figlia delli furono VINCENZO, ed ANDREANA LOPINO».
An Antonio Lettiero, dead by October 1812, whose widow was a GIOVANNA — but a Giovanna MARRONE. This household's Antonio Lettieri is named with GIOVANNA FALCO in an act of 1810 and in a marriage index of 1826, fourteen years after this man was already dead.
They are two men, and the trap is that both wives were called Giovanna. Recorded here so that a later reader meeting «Antonio Lettiero, vedova Giovanna» does not fold it into this house. Lettieri is one of the commonest names in these registers — Domenico, Giuseppe, Salvatore, Tomaso and Giovanni Lettieri all appear in a single year.”ANTENATI an_ua14314 img37 — READ FROM THE IMAGE
