  “«VEDOVA DI FRANCESCO DI GUIDA» — dead by June 1810, husband of a woman of seventy-eight.
  
  HE IS NOT THE FRANCESCO DI GUIDA THIS ARCHIVE ALREADY HELD. That one was a declarant on strada Cioffi in January 1842, aged twenty-five, so born about 1817 — seven years after this man was already dead. Two men, one name, and nothing links them but the name.
  
  WHY HE MATTERS. Antonia di Guida, who married Giuseppe Falco and stands at the head of this archive's fourth generation, was born about 1785. A Francesco di Guida dead by 1810 with a wife born about 1732 is of the right generation to be her father or her uncle — and nothing in this act says he is either. It is recorded so the question can be asked of the 1780s marriage registers if they are ever found.”
