  “THE EARLIEST RECORD OF THIS HOUSEHOLD BY SIXTEEN YEARS. It was held from a marriage index entry of 2 February 1826; this act is from 1810, in a volume this archive had never opened.
  
  «Oggi, che sono li diciannove del mese di Febraro dell'anno mille ottocento dieci sono comparsi … DOMENICO LETTIERO, d'anni quarantatré, bracciale … abitante nella strada della COSTA; e GIUSEPPE LETTIERI, d'anni quarantacinque, bracciale … ed hanno dichiarato, che oggi suddetto giorno ad ore cinque è morto GIUSEPPE LETTIERI, di giorni TRE … abitante nella strada della COSTA, figlio di ANTONIO LETTIERO, e di GIOVANNA FALCO, di professione contadini».
  
  Three days old, so born about 16 February 1810. The couple were married by then, which pushes their marriage back before 1810 and makes the 1826 index entry — where Giovanna Falco is named, not married — a later act about one of their children.
  
  Both declarants are Lettieri of strada Costa, and the act does not say how they are kin.”

  «NUM. 4. Oggi che sono li diciassette — 17 del mese di Febraro del presente anno mille ottocento dieci, ad ore ventuno, è comparso avanti del Signor Sindaco di questa Università il Signor ANTONIO LETTIERO — di professione BRACCIALE — d'anni TRENTUNO — Domiciliante in detta Università, ed abitante nella strada della COSTA — Il medesimo ha presentato un bambino, che ha dichiarato esser nato in costanza del suo legitimo Matrimonio con GIOVANNA FALCO — Il quale è nato il giorno sedici del mese di Febraro, ad ore venti … se li sono imposti i seguenti nomi: GIUSEPPE».
  
  Born at eight in the evening on 16 February 1810; dead on 19 February at «di giorni TRE». Three days exactly. The two acts were found on the same day, a session apart, in two volumes neither of which this archive had ever opened.
  
  AND IT GIVES THE FATHER AN AGE. «ANTONIO LETTIERO … d'anni TRENTUNO» — born about 1779. This household was held from a marriage index entry of 1826 and had no date for anybody in it until this week.”
