What the registers say

  • birth — 15 May 1817 , Arienzo, strada Camellara
“IN A YEAR THIS ARCHIVE PUBLISHED AS «NO FALCO». Witnesses CESARE DIGLIO, fifty, contadino of strada CAMELLARA, and NICOLA DIGLIO, thirty-eight.

HE IS THE FIRST SALVATORE. This household's SALVATORE DIGLIO born 3 September 1822 is the second — five years and four months later, and this family names the next child after the one it buries. What became of the first is not recorded here and is not assumed.

AND HE PUSHES THE HOUSEHOLD BACK AGAIN. With Alessandra of April 1819 this is now the earliest of its children, two years earlier still, and it puts the couple on strada Camellara within four years of their marriage of 19 November 1813.

Found by reading the 1817 birth register act by act for work-list row 86 — a volume this archive had published as holding no Falco at all.”

Others of the same name

This parish repeats its names relentlessly — there are three Maria Falco and four Pasquale. These are different people, kept apart on purpose rather than merged into one.
