The Booyzen Archive

…There is no photograph of their farm, and this archive does not invent one. This archive was built for David Defranceski , born in Johannesburg, living in Brisbane. It runs backwards from his grandmother Catherine Mary Sophia Booyzen (1929–2013) — who married Nuno Fernando Lerena at St Joseph's, Mayfair, in 1949 — into the north-eastern Cape: to Barkly East and Dordrecht , to Cradock and Graaff-Reinet , and out again to Württemberg , to Soho , and to a County Cork that may or may not be real. It is a public archive with one rule: the living are left out — omitted, not hidden.…

The Barrys

…The 1915 death notice shows she is the same woman as Kathleen above. Withdrawn. Read rows five and seven together. Catherina Maria Sophia Barry died on 30 July 1859. Catherine Maria Sophia Barry was born on 4 August 1859 — five days later , and was given the dead child's name. That name then travelled: to Catherine Mary Sophia Booyzen (1891–1946) , and to Catherine Mary Sophia Booyzen (1929–2013) , David Defranceski's grandmother. A four-year-old's death in Burgersdorp is still being commemorated, unknowingly, four generations later.…

The cousin marriage

…George was Kathleen's son. Anna was Hendrik's granddaughter. They were first cousins once removed , and their common ancestors are John Augustus Barry I and Margaretha Wilhelmina Elizabeth Mary Kolbe . What follows from it Catherine Mary Sophia Booyzen descends from John Augustus Barry I and Margaretha Kolbe twice — once through her father, once through her mother. This is pedigree collapse : she has fewer distinct ancestors than the arithmetic of generations predicts. Where a person five generations back should have thirty-two separate ancestors, she has thirty — because one couple occupies two of the slots.…

Disputed → The living are left out Living people are omitted from this build entirely — not hidden, not gated, not present in the output. Because this line reaches the present within three generations of Catherine Mary Sophia Booyzen, that removes a large part of the story from public view. Cheryl Anne Lerena , David Defranceski's mother, appears only as a name and a birth year where the descent cannot be explained without her. Her siblings' living descendants do not appear at all. A removal request is honoured within days, without argument and without requiring a reason. Where this one starts Unusually well.…

A dossier is every mention of a person anywhere in this archive, gathered automatically after the site is built and linked back to the page it appears on. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual — where two people share a name they share this page, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Nothing on a dossier page is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.
