  “THE DEEPEST ANNECCHINO THIS ARCHIVE HOLDS, AND IT CAME OUT OF A MARRIAGE DOSSIER. Item 4 of the 1860 Arienzo marriage act's document list is «Nell'atto di morte dell'AVO PATERNO dello stesso» — the groom's paternal grandfather, named nowhere in the act itself. He is named in the bundle, twice: the dossier holds two copies of the same extract, on images 30 and 31, and they agree word for word.
  
  Forchia, Morti 1826, act 8, 14 June 1826: «avanti di noi Angelo d'Ambrosio Sindaco … del comune di FORCHIA, distretto di NOLA … sono comparsi DOMENICO STROFFOLINO, di anni quaranta, di professione MASSARO … Contrada detta MASSERIA STROFFOLINO, e SABATINO STROFFOLINO, di anni cinquanta, di professione bracciale … ivi Contrada detta MASSERIA DE' PRETI, i quali àn dichiarato, che nel giorno stesso quattordici del mese di Giugno anno suddetto, alle ore diciassette, è morto nella sua propria casa ANTONIO ANNECCHINO, nato in FORCHIA, di anni settantatre, di professione bracciale, domiciliato ivi, figlio di DOMENICO ANNECCHINO defunto … e di ELISABETTA D'ONOFRIO defunta».
  
  Seventy-three in June 1826 puts his birth about 1753 — and his own parents, dead before 1826, must belong to the 1720s or 1730s. That is four documented generations of Annecchino above Sabbatino, and the archive had one.
  
  A SABATINO STROFFOLINO of the Masseria de' Preti declared this death, and Antonio Annecchino's grandson born the following year was called Sabbatino. The act says nothing about why, and neither does this archive.”
