  PUBLISHED HERE AS «SANSONE» UNTIL 20 SEPTEMBER 2026, AND WITH IT THE CLAIM THAT THE SURNAME «HAD NEVER APPEARED IN THIS ARCHIVE AT ALL». The letter is a long ſ, not a z, and the test is on the same leaf: «Crescenzo», in the groom's own name, has a z — a compact loop that drops below the line and has no ascender. The letter in this surname rises above the x-height before it descends. A z in this hand does not do that.
  
  So the surname was not new. ANGELO SANSONE, contadino of strada Camellara, declares the death of Maria Falco, wife of Alfonso Diglio, on 25 April 1826 — and his surname is written in the same shape. Three acts now agree: 1826, 1843 and 1845, all SANSONE. Not claimed as kin.

  HER SURNAME IS SETTLED, FROM A REGISTER TWENTY-ONE YEARS OLDER THAN THE ONE THAT COULD NOT BE READ. Her daughter's birth act — Arienzo, Nati 1822, act 66 — writes it across a line break, «la stessa è nata da MARIA FELICE SAN=/SONE sua moglie legittima, di anni trentaquattro, domiciliata con esso, e da lui dichiarante». SAN, then SONE. A word split at the syllable cannot be a «Sompone», and this filming separates it where the 1843 filming does not.
  
  Thirty-four in August 1822 puts her birth about 1788. She was dead before February 1845.”

The act spells her forename MARIA FELICE, not Maria Felicia, and her surname across a line break. She is the woman the 1843 death act calls «vedova»'s husband's «FELICIA SANSONE» and this archive once published as «Felicia Sompone».”

  “DATED, AND HER PARENTS NAMED. The 1845 dossier carries her death extract as well as her husband's; the register was then opened at the act it copies, and read at 3,200 pixels.
  
  Arienzo, Morti 1838, act 3, 10 January 1838: «avanti di noi FILIPPO TROISI Sindaco … del Comune di Corpo d'Arienzo, Distretto di Caserta … sono comparsi SALVATORE SPOSITO, di anni quarantadue, di professione contadino … domiciliato in strada Camellara, e CESARE DIGLIO, di anni sessanta, di professione contadino … domiciliato in strada Camellara, i quali han dichiarato, che nel giorno dieci del mese di Gennajo anno corrente, alle ore otto, è morta nella sua propria casa MARIA FELICE SANSONE, di anni cinquantatre, moglie di GENNARO MORGILLO, nata in Arienzo, di professione contadina, domiciliata ivi, figlia di PASQUALE SANSONE defunto, di professione contadino, domiciliato ivi, e di MARTA LE CASARO defunta, domiciliata ivi».
  
  She died five and a half years before her husband, in the house they shared on strada Camellara, and her daughter married an orphan's marriage seven years after that.
  
  Fifty-three in January 1838 puts her birth about 1785; her daughter's birth act of 1822 makes her thirty-four, which is 1788. Three years apart, and the clerks guessed both.
