  «L'anno milleottocentoquindici, il giorno ventitré del mese di Marzo … è comparso MATTEO CARFORA d'anni TRENTANOVE, di professione contadino, domiciliato in detto Comune, strada SIGNORINDICO, ed ha dichiarato che il giorno sopraindicato ad ore tre è nato nella sua propria casa, da lui dichiarante, e da LUCIA LAUDATO sua moglie legitima di anni VENTI, un maschio … A cui se li è dato il nome di ANGELO.»
  
  Strada Signorindico is the street of Francesco Carfora, whose 1828 marriage act makes him «figlio di MATTEO CARFORA DEFUNTO … e di GRAZIA ZIMBARDO DEFUNTA» and twenty-eight, so born about 1800. Thirty-nine in 1815 puts this man's birth about 1776 — twenty-four when that son was born.
  
  SO HE HAD AT LEAST TWO WIVES AND POSSIBLY THREE, and this archive cannot yet say which:
  
  - GRAZIA ZIMBARDO — mother of Francesco about 1800, dead before 1828; - ANGELA ZIMBARDO — his wife when she died on 19 February 1813, the day after their son Domenico; - LUCIA LAUDATO — twenty years old and his wife by 1814, bearing Angelo in March 1815.
  
  Angela and Grazia may be one woman under two forenames, in which case Francesco Carfora lost his mother at about thirteen and his father remarried within two years. Or they are sisters, married in turn. The 1828 word was re-read at full resolution and says GRAZIA, so this is a disagreement between documents.
