What the registers say

  • marriage — 12 Feb 1850 , Arienzo, strada Camellara
“THE ACT THAT JOINS TWO HOUSEHOLDS THIS ARCHIVE KEPT APART. HER AGE IS THIRTY-NINE, NOT NINETEEN — re-read at the leaf's full 3,200 pixels on 20 September 2026. The numeral's initial is a tall ascender crossed by a diagonal, a t; this hand's d, in «CHIARA RIVETTI DEFUNTA» four lines above it in the same pen, is a small closed bowl. «Trenove» is the clerk's contraction of trentanove. And the act says so twice: she is «MAGGIORE», of age, and no consent of her mother is taken — a nineteen-year-old would have been «MINORE», as Andreana Crisci is in 1814. So she was born about 1811, not about 1831. «Michele Falco & Antonia Vigliotta» and «Michele Falco & Maria Giovanna d'Ambrogio» are ONE MAN AND TWO MARRIAGES. The d'Ambrogio household was known only by a daughter Antonia born 19 November 1850 — nine months after this wedding.

Verified against the image, work-list row 58 — act 6, and every word holds. «L'anno mille ottocento cinquanta, il dì dodici del mese di Febrajo, alle ore sedici, avanti di Noi ARCANGELO DE FUSCO Sindaco». The bride's parents had never been recorded here: DOMENICO D'AMBROGIO defunto, contadino, and CARMINA MANNA, filatrice, and she is of strada Sant'Andrea. The church celebration followed the same day at Sant'Andrea Apostolo, before ALFONSO VERDICCHIO and a CLEMENTE MOR[GILLO].

THE QUESTION IS ANSWERED, 20 September 2026, AND THEY ARE TWO MEN. The 1828 marriage index was read from the image at last: «10. FALCO MICHELANGELO | Arienzo | FALCO PASQUALE, e RIVETTI CHIARA … VIGLIOTTI ANTONIA | ivi | VIGLIOTTI FRANCESCO, e REPETELLI VITTORIA … Xbre 1828». And the 1850 act's father was magnified for the first time: «figlio di RAFFAELE FALCO Defunto», a capital R.

MICHELANGELO FALCO is a son of PASQUALE. MICHELE FALCO is a son of RAFFAELE. Two fathers, two men — and both of them married a woman called ANTONIA VIGLIOTTI.** That coincidence is now documented from two marriage records rather than guessed at, and it is what had the two households tangled together.”

  • named — alive Aug 1842 , Arienzo, strada Camellara
“«figlio di MICHELE FALCO, di professione contadino, domiciliato ivi» — from the death act of his two-year-old son Matteo Falco, Arienzo Morti 1842 atto 55, 25 August 1842, read at 2800px. Named WITHOUT «fu», so alive. A contadino on strada Camellara, the street of Pasquale Falco and Chiara Rivetti. NO ACT NAMES HIS PARENTS. He is not placed in the line here, and the archive will not place him until an act does.”

  • named as living — 7 Feb 1862 , Arienzo, strada Camellara
“ALIVE ON 7 FEBRUARY 1862 — twelve years later than this archive's previous latest sighting of him. «figlio di MICHELE, di professione simile, domiciliato ivi», in his son Pasquale's death act, with no «fu» where the next line puts one on the boy's mother.

Forty-three at his second marriage in February 1850, he is about fifty-five here, still on strada Camellara.”

This parish repeats its names relentlessly — there are three Maria Falco and four Pasquale. These are different people, kept apart on purpose rather than merged into one.
