This chart is empty, and that is a statement rather than an omission. The act states a relationship that this chart does not yet draw. This person is named at a marriage as a parent or a sibling of one of the spouses, and the person-builder does not make an edge from that role. The relationship is in the record, not on this chart.
What the registers say
- named in a marriage index — 15 Oct 1814 , Arienzo “«ARCANGELO, e SARA RUGGIERO» — SARA, not ROSA. The archive's only previous source for this woman is the parish marriage act, whose machine transcript gives «e [ROSAE] Ruggiero» WITH THE FORENAME IN BRACKETS, the archive's own mark for a reading it did not trust. The civil index is unambiguous. AND IT EXPLAINS A NAME: the daughter born to this couple on 19 DECEMBER 1828 was called SARA — the only Sara in the household, and this archive found her only yesterday. She was named for her mother's mother. The midwife who declared that birth was GELSOMINA RUGGIERO, sixty, and a Gelsomina Ruggiero stood MATRINA at this couple's son Raffaele's baptism in 1818; the Ruggiero kinship is now MORE likely and is STILL NOT CLAIMED”ANTENATI an_ua14113 (Arienzo, Matrimonj indice 1814) img 3 atto 16 — READ FROM THE IMAGE
- named as MATRINA — c. 1810s-1820s , Arienzo, Sant'Andrea Apostolo “SHE IS THE THREAD THROUGH THE WHOLE FALCO CONNECTION. «Matrina fuit SARA RUGGIERO» appears on TEN PAGES of the Arienzo parish baptism harvest, standing godmother to children of AT LEAST SIX FALCO HOUSEHOLDS: PASQUALE FALCO & CHIARA RIVETTI (generation four); GIUSEPPE FALCO & GELSOMINA VIGLIOTTA of strada Costa; GIOACCHINO FALCO & VITTORIA CIMMINO; DOMENICO CRISCI & MARGARITA FALCO, on three separate pages; ANTONIO MORGILLO & ROSA FALCO — the founders' daughter; and VINCENZO FALCO & ANDREANA CRISCI, which is her OWN DAUGHTER. A Giuseppe Falco and Antonia di Guida baptism carries her too. AT TRANSCRIPT STRENGTH ONLY: every one of these is a machine reading and the OCR mangles the names — «Andreana Cini», «Tesummina Vigliotta», «Cara Ricesta». NONE HAS BEEN READ FROM THE IMAGE. - named as consenting mother — 15 Oct 1814 , Arienzo, strada Camellara “«e da SARA RUGGIERO sua MADRE, di anni QUARANTA, domiciliata col marito» — born about 1774, and present in person at her daughter's marriage. The word MADRE was magnified before it was recorded. This is the second document to give the bride's mother as SARA rather than the bracketed «[Rosae]» of the parish act's machine transcript, and the first to give her an age.”ANTENATI an_ua14218 (Arienzo, Stato civile napoleonico, Matrimoni 1814) img 9, left page, atto 16 — READ FROM THE IMAGE
- her trade — she was the town midwife — 11 May 1810 , Arienzo, strada Camellara “ANDREANA CRISCI'S MOTHER DELIVERED ARIENZO'S CHILDREN, AND THE REGISTER LETS HER SPEAK FOR THEM.
«E DA IGNOTO GENITORE» — father unknown. Under the Napoleonic code the midwife declared the births no father would come forward for, and the clerk wrote every verb in the feminine: è comparsa, la Signora, la medesima. This is the one kind of act in these registers where a woman stands alone before the Sindaco.
Forty-two in May 1810 puts her birth about 1768, and the 1814 register gives a levatrice Sara Ruggiero of forty-six — the same year. The identification rests on the street: strada Camellara, where her husband Arcangelo Crisci is recorded two months earlier.
AND IT LEAVES ONE THING UNCOMFORTABLE, WHICH IS WHY IT IS WRITTEN DOWN. If she was born in 1768, she bore Carmela Crisci in January 1815 at about forty-seven. That is late but not impossible, and the alternative — two Sara Ruggiero on one street — is not better supported. Recorded as probable, with the difficulty stated.”ANTENATI an_ua14407 img25L — READ FROM THE IMAGE
