What the registers say

  • named as living — 1809 , Arienzo, strada della Fontana
    “Massaro, alive in 1809.

A SAVERIO RIVIERI, ALSO A MASSARO, BURIES AN INFANT IN THE NEXT YEAR'S REGISTER BY A DIFFERENT WIFE. On that act — 1810, strada delli Cappuccini — he is «massaro di campagna» and the mother is ANNA CARFORA. If it is one man, Angela Falco died between the two acts and he remarried inside a year; if it is two men, the name and the trade coincide. This archive read every Arienzo death act of 1809 and 1810 and Angela Falco is in neither, which settles nothing either way — she could have died in any of the years still unread.

The two households are kept apart.”
