Victor LERENA (d.1889, alpargatero)

A WHOLE BRANCH OF LERENAS THIS ARCHIVE HAD NEVER SEEN, found 15 September 2026 by searching FIDEL rather than the surname. Abuelos paternos FIDEL LERENA y MARIA RUEDAS; maternos Jose Seguera y Ramona." He died in hospital at twenty-eight, single, of tuberculosis, and the declaration was made DE OFICIO - by the authorities, not by family. An alpargatero is a maker of rope-soled shoes. Every other Lerena this archive has placed in Montevideo is a hacendado, a juez de paz, a major or a senator's family. This is the same surname at the other end of that city. WHETHER THIS FIDEL IS SANCHO'S SON IS NOT ESTABLISHED. Sancho's Fidel was born about 1799 and the Geneanet trees give him a death in 1822, at twenty-two or twenty-three. For this to be the same man, Pedro would have to be born by 1822 and fathering Victor at about forty. That is tight but possible, and the tree's 1822 is tree-only and has never been tested against a Montevideo burial. The alternative is a second Fidel Lerena at Montevideo, which nothing rules out. Recorded as a branch to test, not as a descent. READ OFF THE PLATE 21 September 2026, where this row had rested on a MACHINE TRANSCRIPT. Film 008165116 image 01442, folio 94 - Montevideo civil death registration No. 622 of 1889. THE ACT GIVES A CAUSE OF DEATH THE TRANSCRIPT NEVER CARRIED: 'a consecuencia de TUBERCULOSIS PULMONAR, segun consta del certificado medico'. His trade is confirmed in the priest's - the registrar's - own hand: ALPARGATERO. And the registration is 'de oficio', an official declaration rather than one made by kin, which is why no relative signs it. THE ACT RUNS TO THREE GENERATIONS: 'el finado era hijo de PEDRO LERENA y JOSEFA SEGUEIRA, orientales, FINADOS. Abuelos [paternos] FIDEL LERENA y MARIA RUEDAS: MATERNOS JOSE SEGUEIRA y RAMONA...'
