The Atlas
Every place this archive can put a person in — four Sicilian comuni within eight kilometres of each other, the Calabrian towns on the other side of the strait, and the Brisbane parish where all four quarters finally met.
Four questions of the same ground. Switch any layer on or off; the panel never switches, because a place that is a comune with registers, a home, a grave and people the registers added says all four at once. Several places answer more than one, and with every layer on those wear the rarer colour — the burial is the thing worth seeing and the shelf is the ground it sits on.
A marker is a place this archive can put a person in. Weight is not kinship — a parish may hold a great many of the surname and be connected to this family by nothing at all. 6 of these coordinates are approximate: the gazetteer matched a larger place, or a modern name, rather than the exact parish.
