What the registers say
- named — dead by 1843 , Arienzo “«figlio di GIOACCHINO CRISCI defunto, di professione contadino, domiciliato ivi, E DI FRANCESCA FALCO defunta» — from the death act of her son Aniello Cioffi — who died on 26 July 1843, in an act drawn the following day and published here as 27 July until 20 September 2026 — verified at full resolution. Her son was seventy-six, so born about 1767, which places her marriage in the seventeen-sixties and her own birth in the seventeen-forties: the generation of MATTEO FALCO himself. NOTHING NAMES HER PARENTS and this archive does not guess at them.
AND HER DEATH WINDOW CLOSES BY FOURTEEN YEARS. She was «defunta» in her son ANIELLO's act of 27 July 1843; she is already «defunta» in her son LUCA's act of 16 January 1829, found on 20 September 2026. She died before January 1829, and her husband with her.”ANTENATI an_ua14345 img21r atto29 - named as a parent — 1809 , Arienzo “A FALCO WOMAN WHO MARRIED A CRISCI, AND SHE BORE A SON ABOUT 1765.
WHY THIS IS THE EARLIEST FALCO THIS ARCHIVE CAN REACH — AND WHAT IT IS NOT. It is not a new person. This archive has held Francesca Falco since her sons' death acts were read: Aniello Crisci, seventy-six in 1843, and Luca Crisci, sixty in 1829, both «figlio di GIOACCHINO CRISCI Defunto … e di FRANCESCA FALCO Defunta». What 1809 adds is a third son, and what 1813 adds is her own death act. A woman with a son born in 1765 was herself born around 1735–1745 — a full generation above Matteo Falco, this archive's head of line, who died in 1802.
AND SHE MARRIED A CRISCI. Matteo Falco's own wife was Francesca Crisci; his son Vincenzo married Andreana Crisci. A Falco–Crisci marriage two generations before either of those is exactly the shape this archive has been looking for — and this act does not connect them. It gives a name, a husband and a son, and nothing else. [[founders-children]]
SHE IS NOT SAID TO BE DEAD, AND THAT PROVES NOTHING. «figlio del fu Gioacchino, e di Francesca Falco» — the «fu» attaches to the father alone. This archive has already been wrong once by reading a missing «fu» as evidence of life. [[quondam-not-evidence]]

CORRECTED 23 SEPTEMBER 2026 — THIS HOUSEHOLD WAS NOT NEW AND THIS ARCHIVE SAID IT WAS. The row above was written into a household record created from scratch, because the publishing script appended a new entry instead of finding the existing one. Four household names were duplicated that way in one night, and the verification chain passed every time: no gate in this archive checked for two households of the same name. One now does. ”ANTENATI an_ua14311 img5 — READ FROM THE IMAGE - death — 11 Nov 1813 , Arienzo, strada delli Crisci “EIGHTY YEARS OLD. SHE IS THE EARLIEST FALCO THIS ARCHIVE CAN DATE — AND THIS ARCHIVE HAD HER ALL ALONG WITHOUT A DATE. She has been here since her sons' death acts of 1829 and 1843 named her «FRANCESCA FALCO Defunta». Those acts said she was dead. This one says when, and how old, and where.
«…quali hanno dichiarato che a detto dì undeci del mese corrente di Novembre, ad ore nove, FRANCESCA FALCO, VEDOVA DI GIOACCHINO CRISCI, figlia delli furono GIUSEPPE [·····], e ⟨———⟩ … di anni OTTANTA — di professione contadina, domiciliata nella strada delli CRISCI — è morta nella sua propria casa».
Eighty in November 1813 puts her birth about 1733 — a generation and a half above Matteo Falco, who died in 1802. Her son Francesco Crisci was born about 1765, when she was thirty-two, which the two acts agree on without being made to.
THE DECLARANTS ARE «PARENTI DELLA DEFONTA» — her kin — a bracciale of strada delli Crisci and ARCANGELO CRISCI, forty-two. The act does not say how either is related.
AND HERE THE CLERK LOST HIS PLACE, WHICH COSTS THIS ARCHIVE THE THING IT MOST WANTED. Having just written «vedova di Gioacchi-no CRISCI» across a line break, he wrote CRISCI again where her father's surname belonged: the act says «figlia delli furono GIUSEPPE CRISCI» of a woman whose own surname is FALCO. Then he stopped — her mother's name was never written at all, and a whole ruled line stands empty before the printed «di anni» resumes.
The word was magnified four times and set beside «Falco» three lines above it. They are not the same word. The surname in her filiation is Crisci, and it cannot be right.
WHAT THIS DOES TO THE ANGELO FALCO QUESTION. The 1811 register gives ANGELO FALCO, born about 1747, «figlio dalli furono GIUSEPPE FALCO, e ROSA SPOSITO». Here is a Francesca Falco, born about 1733, daughter of a GIUSEPPE. The forename matches and the surname is demonstrably corrupt, so the one document that could have made them brother and sister is the one document that cannot be trusted on the point. They are candidates. They are not joined. [[quondam-not-evidence]]”ANTENATI an_ua14315 img42 — READ FROM THE IMAGE
