- marriage — 29 Jun 1828 , Arienzo “THE CARFORA HOUSE THIS ARCHIVE WAS LOOKING FOR, AND IT IS NOT ON STRADA CAMELLARA. Row 63 was raised because the archive did not know there were Carfora at Arienzo at all; it then found three contadino households in the 1831 births, two of them on the Falco's own street, and assumed the answer was among them. It was not. This house is on strada SIGNORINDICO.
The church celebration followed on 30 June 1828 at Sant'Andrea Apostolo.
«VEDOVO DI MARTA CRISCI» IS LEFT AS IT READS. The clause sits between Matteo Carfora and Grazia Zimbardo, and the printed form gives it to neither cleanly: it may make Francesco a widower remarrying at twenty-eight, or Matteo a man twice married. This archive holds a MARTA GRIFO, thirty, wife of a Francesco Carfora, dead at Arienzo on 6 May 1827 — act 33 of the 1827 death register, already read here, with Giovanni Carfora, forty-five, contadino of strada Signorindio and Stefano Carfora as declarants. Grifo is not Crisci and the two are not merged, but a Francesco Carfora of that street widowed in May 1827 and remarrying in June 1828 is the shape the act describes, and it is recorded here for whoever reads act 33 at magnification next.
He was still alive on 1 January 1860, when he gave his consent in person at the Casa Comunale of Arienzo for his daughter's marriage.
---
THE FIRST WIFE, READ FROM HER OWN ACT — 22 September 2026. The clause «vedovo di MARTA CRISCI» sat here as a puzzle, with a note that this archive held a MARTA GRIFO dead at thirty on 6 May 1827 as the wife of a Francesco Carfora, and that whoever read act 33 next should magnify it. It has been read.
WHAT IS SECURE. She is MARTA, thirty, wife of FRANCESCO CARFORA, dead 6 May 1827 — thirteen months before he married Pasqua Morgillo — and both declarants are Carfora of strada SIGNORINDICO, the street this household lives on, one of them «vicino della defunta». Her parents are ALESSANDRO CAS——— and CARMINA PORRINO.
WHAT IS NOT. Her own surname will not resolve and neither will her father's. Hers is a tall looped initial over a double-f or long-s cluster — this archive has published it as GRIFO — and his is four or five letters beginning CAS, which a note of 13 September read as CASALE. Neither is CRISCI.
SO THE 1828 ACT'S «MARTA CRISCI» IS NOT HER SURNAME. Either the clerk of June 1828 wrote the wrong name for a woman thirteen months dead, or Francesco Carfora buried two wives called Marta in thirteen months. The street, the trade, the husband's name and the date all say one woman; only the surname says two, and it is the one word on the page that cannot be read. Left as it reads, in both acts.”ANTENATI an_ua14232 img12r act11 + ANTENATI an_ua14329 img18r act33 — READ FROM THE IMAGE
