  «DA LUI DICHIARANTE» IS WHY SHE WAS MISSING. The left page of the opening — the band this archive reads for parents — never writes the father's name in this act. It says and by him, the declarant, of the age above, of the trade above, living as above. A sweep of that band sees ANDREANA CRISCI and no Falco at all. This is the exact failure work-list row 85 was raised to describe, and it had cost this line a child.
  
  Both stated ages are exactly right, which is rare here. He is forty and his baptism is 1 February 1792; she is thirty-six and hers is 30 November 1796. This archive has published, repeatedly, that the Arienzo clerks guessed ages by as much as five years — the same office made him thirty-two in 1826 and thirty-six in 1828. In this one act both parents are right to the year.
  
  She fills the 1830–1834 gap. The children run Giuseppe Nunzio (1824), Angelandrea (1826), Sara (1828), Pasquale (1830, dead 1833) — Maria Carmela (1832) — Pasquale the second (1834, dead the same year).
  
  SHE IS NOT THE OTHER MARIA CARMELA FALCO OF 1832. That one was born 15 July 1832 on the same street to Francescantonio Falco and Maria Raffaela Falco, and is already held here. Two girls of one name, one surname and one street, twelve weeks apart — this town keeps proving that a name identifies nobody.
  
  Witnesses PIETRO MAURO, twenty-three, sartore, regnicolo, of strada Porta di Sopra, and FILIPPO GIGLIO, twenty-six. Baptised at Sant'Andrea Apostolo di Arienzo on 10 October, the notamento returned the same day. No marginal annotation: the act carries no later marriage, and what became of her is open.”

  “HER MARRIAGE — AND SHE MARRIED A DI LUCIA, FOUR YEARS BEFORE HER BROTHER DID. Arienzo, Matrimoni 1857, act 28, eleven days after her cousin-by-street Angela Maria Falco's:

L'anno mille ottocento cinquantasette, il dì ventisei di Novembre … avanti di Noi CARLO CARFORA Sindaco … di Arienzo … comparsi nella Casa Comunale NICOLA DI LUCIA, di anni ventotto, nato in SAN FELICE, di professione contadino, domiciliato in San Felice, figlio di GIOVANNI DI LUCIA, di professione contadino, domiciliato ivi, e di VINCENZA ZIMBARDO, domiciliata ivi; e MARIA CARMELA FALCO, di anni venticinque, nata in Arienzo, domiciliata in Arienzo, figlia di VINCENZO FALCO, di professione contadino, domiciliato ivi, e di ANDREANA CRISCI, domiciliata ivi».
  
  Twenty-five in November 1857 is a woman born in 1832, and her birth act is 10 October 1832.
  
  TWO OF THIS HOUSEHOLD'S CHILDREN MARRIED DI LUCIA OF SAN FELICE. STANISLAO FALCO married FILOMENA DI LUCIA at Arienzo on 19 September 1861, four years later. Filomena's father is LUIGI di Lucia and Nicola's is GIOVANNI; whether the two houses are one is not established and is not claimed. Di Lucia is a San Felice surname this archive meets repeatedly.
  
  Her parents are unmarked and therefore alive on 26 November 1857 — which this archive already knew from Luigi Falco's death act of December 1864.”
