What the registers say

  • named in a death act — 16 Mar 1834 , Arienzo, strada Camellara
“«e di RAFFAELA FALCO, domiciliata ivi» — named without «Defunta», so living in March 1834. A FALCO MARRIED TO A FALCO, and this archive had not recorded her.

She may or may not be the RAFFAELA FALCO who is married to FRANCESCO FALCO and who buried Carmina Falco, six months old, on 19 December 1832 — fourteen months before this. Two readings, two husbands' forenames, one wife's name. Either there are two Raffaela Falco married to two Falco men — which this family's naming habits make entirely possible, four Maria Falco having already had to be separated — or one woman was widowed and remarried inside fourteen months. Neither is asserted.”
