WHERE THE LINE IN THE PRISONER LIST WAS STANDING. Williem Johannes Kolbe was taken here in 1901, aged 54, and recorded as a Free Stater — TNA WO 108/368 folio 603 — then sent to Natal. The Afrikaans sources make him GENERAL WILLEM JOHANNES KOLBE of the Bloemfontein commando, born 9 July 1847 in the district of Philippolis, where his grandfather preached. THE TWO MEN ARE NOT PROVED TO BE ONE: a name, a year and a district agreeing is strong and is not a register.
