marriedGennaro Espositelli16 Oct 1826registerWhat the registers say
- named in a birth act — 16 Oct 1826 , Arienzo, strada Capodiconca “A SECOND ANDREANA CRISCI, IN THE SAME REGISTER AS THE FIRST, EIGHT LEAVES AWAY. Act 77 of 1826: «è nato da ANDREANA CRISCI sua moglie legittima, di anni TRENTUNO, domiciliata collo stesso, e da lui dichiarante» — the declarant being GENNARO ESPOSITELLI, thirty-four, contadino, of strada CAPODICONCA. The child is RAFFAELE, born 16 October 1826 at eighteen hours in his father's own house.
Act 69 of the same volume names ANDREANA CRISCI, twenty-eight, of strada CAMELLARA, wife of VINCENZO FALCO — generation three's wife, whose baptism is 30 November 1796. The two are three years apart in stated age, on two different streets, in one register, in one clerk's hand. Both readings were magnified and neither is in doubt.
THIS HOUSEHOLD IS NOT CLAIMED AS KIN AND NOTHING JOINS IT TO THIS LINE. It is published because generation three's wife is identified in this archive by her husband and her street, and it is now documented that her name alone identifies nobody — as this town has already proved for Giuseppe Falco, Carlantonio Morgillo, Arcangelo Crisci, Angelo Morgillo and Gennaro Morgillo.
A CAUTION FOUND TWO DAYS' READING LATER, AND LEFT VISIBLE. The 1828 register, act at image 113, gives a GENNARO ESPOSITELLA of strada CIOFFI whose wife is «ANDREANA VERTEGGIO, di anni TRENTADUE» — magnified, the word is V-e-r-t-e-gg-i-o and is not Crisci. So within two years the name Gennaro Espositella carries a different wife on a different street. Either there are two men of the name — which this town produces constantly — or he was widowed and remarried between October 1826 and 1828. Nothing here decides it, and nothing needs to: the 1826 act's own words are what this row records, and ANDREANA CRISCI is magnified and certain in them.”ANTENATI an_ua14423 (Arienzo, Nati 1826) atto 77, img 78r-79l — READ FROM THE IMAGE

This parish repeats its names relentlessly — there are three Maria Falco and four Pasquale. These are different people, kept apart on purpose rather than merged into one.
