What the registers say
VERIFIED WORD FOR WORD, work-list row 58 — act 57, foglio 27. «è comparso GIUSEPPE FALCO, di anni TRENTASEI, di professione contadino, domiciliato in questo comune, strada Camellara … da ANTONIA DI GUIDA sua moglie legittima, d'anni TRENTA, una Femina … a cui si è dato il nome di MADDALENA».
AND IT WEAKENS SOMETHING THIS ARCHIVE PUBLISHED EARLIER THE SAME DAY. On finding Antonia di Guida at forty in March 1824 and forty again in April 1825, this archive called them «two independent statements agreeing» and dated her birth to about 1784. There is a third, and it does not agree: THIRTY in June 1818, which would put her birth about 1788. Ten years in six. Her age is as unreliable as everyone else's here, and the agreement of 1824 and 1825 was the agreement of two guesses, not two witnesses.”ANTENATI an_ua14415 img47r act57 [image number corrected 15 Sep 2026: the note it was copied from used ZERO-BASED harvest numbering] - death — 31 May 1825 , Arienzo, strada Camellara “«è morta nella sua propria casa MADDALENA FALCO, d'anni SETTE, nata in Arienzo, di professione Contadina, figlia di GIUSEPPE FALCO, di professione Contadino, e di ANTONIA DI GUIDA» — atto 30. THIS CLOSES A LIFE THE ARCHIVE HAD ONLY OPENED: her civil birth act of 7 June 1818 records her born on strada Camellara to Giuseppe, thirty-six, and Antonia, and she died a week short of her seventh birthday. A documented grandchild of Matteo Falco and Francesca Crisci, and a first cousin of Vincenzo Falco's children. Declared by CESARE COSSI, 30, and FRANCESCO COSSI, 34, both of strada Camellara — and Francesco Cossi is very likely the husband of the Maria Falco for whose three dead children Giuseppe Falco had stood in 1823, 1824 and 1825. The two houses declare for each other.”ANTENATI an_ua14327 img17l atto30
- baptism — 7 Jun 1818 , Arienzo, Sant'Andrea Apostolo “THE BAPTISM, FOUND — AND IT WAS NEVER ON THE LEAF THIS ARCHIVE KEPT RENDERING. «[Anno] D[omi]ni 1818, die vero septima 7 Junii, R[everendu]s D[ominu]s D. BLASIUS MANSIONARIUS ARRICALE Substitutus baptizavit infantem natam ex JOSEPHO FALCO et ANTONIA DI GUIDA conjugibus hujus Parochiae, cui dedit nomen MAGDALENA. Matrina fuit DOROTHEA D'ADDIO. HYACINTHUS Archip[resbyter] MORGILLO».
Same day as her civil birth act, which this archive already held. The godmother is the same Dorotea d'Addio who stood at Gioacchino Falco's font in 1779 — forty years of one woman at this family's baptisms.
WHY TWO PASSES FAILED. Work-list row 16 was rendering3Q9M-CSD3-1381-R, and it is the right leaf for the margin label — «Maddalena Falco» is written there. The act itself is on a different ark,3Q9M-CSD3-13LG-7. The index entry and the act are on separate leaves, and the row had the index one.”FAMILYSEARCH full text, Arienzo parish baptisms — 3Q9M-CSD3-13LG-7 (MACHINE TRANSCRIPTION; the image is not yet read)
