Church celebration 23 September 1861, parish of Sant'Andrea Apostolo. A PASTORE — a shepherd — in a house of contadini. Twenty-four in September 1861 gives b. c.1837, which would make Andreana Crisci about forty at his birth: late, but this register's ages are good to about three years and no better, and she was bearing children into 1828 on the archive's own reckoning.”ANTENATI an_ua14265 img18r act16

Act 79: «L'anno mille ottocento TRENTOTTO, il dì DIECI del mese di SETTEMBRE, ad ore QUATTORDICI … è comparso VINCENZO FALCO, di anni QUARANTASEI, di professione CONTADINO, domiciliato in strada CAMELLARA, quale ci ha presentato un MASCHIO … che lo stesso è nato da ANDREANA CRISCI sua moglie legittima, di anni QUARANTA, domiciliata collo stesso, e da lui dichiarante … nel giorno NOVE del mese di SETTEMBRE … nella casa sua propria d'abitazione … di dare al neonato il nome di STANISLAO».
Born 9 September 1838 and declared the next day, in his father's own house on strada Camellara, baptised at Sant'Andrea Apostolo. Witnesses PIETRO GRAZIO, fifty, contadino, regnicolo, of strada CAPODICONCA — the family is written Grazia elsewhere in these registers — and ORAZIO PORRINO, forty, contadino, regnicolo.
The age agrees. His marriage act of 19 September 1861 makes him twenty-four, which gives about 1837; born 9 September 1838 he had turned twenty-three eleven days before it. This is the closest fit in the register and there is no other Falco birth in 1838 to compete with it.
WHY IT WAS MISSING, IN THE ACT'S OWN WORDS. The left page of the opening — the band this archive reads for parents — says «nata da ANDREANA CRISCI sua moglie legittima … E DA LUI DICHIARANTE, di anni come sopra, di professione come sopra, domiciliato come sopra». The father's name is never written on it. A parents-band sweep of 1838 reads a Crisci and no Falco, which is exactly what happened: the year stood here as «NO FALCO — the volume was read end to end and the family is not in it».
