Agustina Ramona LERENA Fernandez
ONE OF SANCHO'S SIX CHILDREN LISTED IN THE 1812 PADRON, and the first time any of them has been entered here. The household at calle San Juan No 60 held Sancho "andaluz" 45, Maria Fernandez 36, and six children all "naturales del CANELON" - Juan Agustin 21, Pedro Antonio 19, Agustina 17, Fidel 12, Justa 10 and Dominga 7 - together with Sancho's father-in-law RODRIGO FERNANDEZ, 63, asturiano, and four enslaved people. That all six were born at Canelones is the best support the 1791 marriage venue has, and it comes from a census rather than from a tree. NOT AN ACT: this row rests on a published transcription of a census, reported at second hand through a family tree. The act has not been opened here. Aged 17 in the 1812 padron, so born about 1795, which the tree gives exactly. She is the second half of the 1812 godparent pair - "Dona AGUSTINA PERENA" - standing with her elder brother Juan Agustin at a Fernandez grandchild's baptism. Her forename repeats his second, which is the ordinary Spanish habit of naming siblings from one saint. HER ACT IS FOUND, 15 September 2026, one day after she was entered here from a census age and a tree. Canelones, 30 August 1795: "bautice puse el Santo Oleo y Crisma a AGUSTINA RAMONA de tres dias nacida, hija legitima de Don Sancho Lerena y de Dona Maria Fernandez vecinos de la Villa". Born 27 August 1795, and her second forename is RAMONA. Her godfather was DON FIDEL REY of Montevideo - which is where her younger brother FIDEL got a forename that appears nowhere else in this family. READ OFF THE PLATE 21 September 2026, AND SHE GAINS A SECOND FORENAME. 'DE TRES DIAS NACIDA' CONFIRMS THE BIRTH OF 27 AUGUST 1795 that this register carried from a tree and a padron. AND THE GODFATHER EXPLAINS A NAME THIS FAMILY USES: FIDEL. Sancho's next son but one was christened FIDEL, about 1799 - four years after Don Fidel Rey stood at this font. This family names children for whoever stands at the font, five times over in the acts read here, so the likeliest source of the forename FIDEL in the Lerena is this man. IT IS AN INFERENCE FROM A PATTERN, NOT FROM A RECORD, and it does not touch the separate question of whether the FIDEL LERENA who married Maria Ruedas is Sancho's son. The act also carries a scribal self-correction - the teniente cura is written 'D.r Christoval Munoz QUIERO DECIR ...' - and the Cura y Vicario signs JOSE MANUEL DE ROO, the same hand that signs Jose Loreto's act eleven years later.
