Fidel LERENA Fernandez
ONE OF SANCHO'S SIX CHILDREN LISTED IN THE 1812 PADRON, and the first time any of them has been entered here. The household at calle San Juan No 60 held Sancho "andaluz" 45, Maria Fernandez 36, and six children all "naturales del CANELON" - Juan Agustin 21, Pedro Antonio 19, Agustina 17, Fidel 12, Justa 10 and Dominga 7 - together with Sancho's father-in-law RODRIGO FERNANDEZ, 63, asturiano, and four enslaved people. That all six were born at Canelones is the best support the 1791 marriage venue has, and it comes from a census rather than from a tree. NOT AN ACT: this row rests on a published transcription of a census, reported at second hand through a family tree. The act has not been opened here. Aged 12 in the 1812 padron, so born about 1800; the tree gives 1799 and a death in 1822, at twenty-two or twenty-three. If that death is right he is the only one of Sancho's children this archive can see dying young, and he died in the decade the family were serving the Portuguese occupation at Canelones. The death is tree-only and has not been tested against Montevideo burials. The tree's own prose says the couple had EIGHT children while listing seven, and it omits Dominga, whom the padron and a Canelones act of 1804 both attest - so its child list is incomplete and this row inherits that caution. AND HIS NAME IS EXPLAINED, 15 September 2026. It appears nowhere else in this family and this row could not account for it. His sister Agustina's baptism of 30 August 1795 gives her godfather as DON FIDEL REY, vecino de Montevideo. The child born four years later carries the godfather's name. An inference, not a statement - no act says the boy was named for him - but the coincidence of a rare forename and a recent sponsor in one household is a thin one to explain away. AND THAT DEATH HAS NOW BEEN TESTED AGAINST MONTEVIDEO BURIALS, 20 September 2026: IT IS NOT THERE. A search of Uruguayan deaths 1815-1840 for a Fidel Lerena returns nothing, against a control in the same window - Rodriguez - returning 62,026 records with burials of 1840 and 1844 on the first screen. The 1822 remains tree-only, and is now tree-only having been looked for. It can no longer be used to rule this man out of the 1889 death registration that names a FIDEL LERENA and MARIA RUEDAS as a grandfather and grandmother.
This person is connected to the line, and no parent, spouse, child or sibling of theirs is named by any record here.
