WERDMULLER, OF BURGHERSDORP” to Charlotte Anne Callaghan. A man born 14 February 1857 was twenty-seven that week. NOT PROVED: no document read here names Charles Andrew’s mother, and his father — or a man of exactly that name — married again at Burgersdorp in 1874. NAMELESS IN THE INDEX, AND THAT IS THE POINT. The same sweep that found the tenth Barry child turned up a second entry with an EMPTY NAME COLUMN: born 14 February 1857, baptised 10 April 1857 at Burgersdorp, mother AUGUSTA LOUISA KOLBE, father COENRAAD JOHANNES OTTO WERDMULLER. She is the Settler's fourth daughter, born at Graaff-Reinet in 1829 — and this is the first of her children this archive has ever seen.
