Frederick Kolbe of 1816

RIGHT SURNAME, RIGHT PARISH, RIGHT DECADE, AND A GAP IN THE FAMILY'S OWN BAPTISM RUN EXACTLY THERE. He is not a brother. His father is GEORGE and his mother ELIZABETH, and his register batch is C72301-7 rather than the family's C15051-2 or C06236-1. HE WAS ONE CLICK FROM BEING MADE AN EIGHTH SON, and what stopped it was reading the parents' names on the transcript instead of the name, place and year in the result list. The same check threw out HENRY KOLBE, baptised at Southwark on 2 February 1800 — father Henry, mother Susannah. AND THE REJECTION TURNED OUT NOT TO BE A DEAD END. Morning Advertiser, 31 DECEMBER 1832: “LEFT HIS HOME, MONDAY, DECEMBER 10, FREDERICK KOLBE, ABOUT 16, DARK HAIR AND EYES, WITH AN IMPEDIMENT IN HIS SIGHT. Any information addressed MRS. KOLBE, NO. 18, GERRARD-STREET, SOHO, will be rewarded; if he will return, will…” — and a boy “about 16” in December 1832 is one baptised in December 1816. GERRARD STREET IS TWO STREETS FROM CHURCH STREET. THERE WERE TWO KOLBE HOUSEHOLDS IN SOHO AT ONCE, and every Soho Kolbe record on this site has to be read against that. Whether the two families were related is not known here.

No family is drawn here, because none is recorded. This archive holds Frederick Kolbe of 1816 as a name on a document — a witness at a font, a signature on a form, a person named in someone else's list — and has no record of who their parents, spouse or children were. That is a statement about the sources, not about the person. Every record naming them →

A dossier is every mention of a person anywhere in this archive, gathered automatically after the site is built and linked back to the page it appears on. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual — where two people share a name they share this page, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Nothing on a dossier page is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.
