Jan Booijsen
THE MAN THE BOOK PUTS WHERE THE DOCUMENT PUTS SOMEBODY ELSE. b3c4 — son of Gerrit Booijsen and Johanna du Rand; burgher at Drakenstein; MARRIED MAGDALENA DE BEER 21 JANUARY 1770 and remarried MARGARETHA PRETORIUS 15 DECEMBER 1793, which is how this archive knows the de Beer wife was dead by then. De Villiers (1893) gives him twelve children, of whom d5 is JAN JONATHAN, d6 MAGDALENA and d7 PETRUS JACOBUS, BAPTISED 21 SEPTEMBER 1788 — this archive's own ancestor. RIËL SMIT CONFIRMS THAT DE VILLIERS & PAMA (1981) STILL PLACES HIM THERE. Pieter van Zyl notes he was dead more than forty years before Petrus Jacobus died in 1876, which is why the grandson who signed the death notice could write somebody else's name in the parents' box. HE IS ENTERED AS INFERRED AND NOT AS DOCUMENTED, because two editions of one printed genealogy are one source agreeing with itself, and the primary document on this site says Gerthardus Lodewikus. The baptism register of 21 September 1788 decides between them.
Every record naming Jan Booijsen →
No family is drawn here, because none is recorded. This archive holds Jan Booijsen as a name on a document — a witness at a font, a signature on a form, a person named in someone else's list — and has no record of who their parents, spouse or children were. That is a statement about the sources, not about the person. Every record naming them →

…This row has deliberately not been changed. Everything against him is a printed genealogy agreeing with its own earlier edition, which is one source agreeing with itself; what he has is a primary document signed by a son. Jan Booijsen is on this site as INFERRED, not documented , and he is not in the table above. What ends it is the baptism entry of 21 September 1788 , which is at Cape Town and is not on FamilySearch — that collection begins in 1843. A dossier is every mention of a person anywhere in this archive, gathered automatically after the site is built and linked back to the page it appears on. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual — where two people share a name they share this page, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Nothing on a dossier page is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.
