…Documented He was not shot by anybody. The death registration → Inferred Three readings survive, and the archive does not choose between them: The generations are miscounted. Tersia Booyzen was counting from herself, not from the current researcher. Her "great great grandfather" may be a man this archive has not identified. "Shot and killed" is not an execution. It may mean killed in action, or shot during a farm clearance — neither of which would appear on the treason lists.…

…This archive has not seen the medal, the ABO application, or Schroeder's signature. It is strong secondary evidence, and the prisoner number is what ties it to the register rather than to a name alone. The family's own war testimony now has something to be tested against. This archive has quoted Tersia Booyzen's account in full for the whole project and measured it only against surname distributions and rebel district figures, because there was no record. There is one now: a policeman of Pretoria who was at Talana in the first week of the war, wounded at Wagon Hill, present at Spion Kop and at the ZARPs' last stand, taken at Tolosberg with forty-one others and two guns, and shipped to India.…
