Not in the tree

People this archive can prove and the family tree has never held — three new generations of them, found in a week.

The people pages on this site are generated from the family tree, and the tree is the authority on who exists. That rule is deliberate — this archive's job is to say how well each claim is evidenced, not to merge or invent people behind the reader. But this week produced a dozen people who are documented and are not in the tree, and they need somewhere to stand.

Why they are not on The People

None of these people can be given a page under The People without inventing a tree record for them, and this archive does not do that. They live in the register, on the narrative pages, and here.

The tree has 473 people in it. On the evidence of one week, it is missing at least twenty-four who can be documented — a whole English household among them, and most of the rest women in the generation just above where the tree's compiler stopped.
