What the registers say

  • marriage — 24 Jan 1834 , Arienzo
“A NINTH CHILD, AND THE SECOND NECRONYM IN THIS HOUSEHOLD. «3. FALCO MATTEO | Arienzo | FALCO GIUSEPPE, e GUIDA ANTONIA | A 24 Gennajo 1834», his bride CRISCI ALESSANDRA. THE FIRST MATTEO — baptised 1807, named for his grandfather the founder — DIED 28 AUGUST 1809, so the name was given again to a later son, exactly as MADDALENA was given again in 1827 after the first Maddalena died in 1825. His bride's mother is written «[Quo]TOLO ANGELA», and ANIELLO CRISCI, who married this man's sister Giovanna in 1829, was son of «CRISCI CRESCENZO, e QUOTOLO ANGELA». THEY MAY BE BROTHER AND SISTER AND IT IS NOT CLAIMED: the father's forename here is obscured by the fold, and Angela Quotolo is not a rare name at Arienzo”

  • birth — 12 Jan 1810 , Arienzo, strada Camellara
“HIS BIRTH DATE, WHERE THIS ARCHIVE HAD ONLY A MARRIAGE INDEX ENTRY.

Born at eleven in the morning on 12 January 1810 and declared at four the same afternoon. He married ALESSANDRA CRISCI on 24 January 1834, at twenty-four, which this archive held from a marriage index and could not date.

HE IS THE THIRD CHILD OF THIS COUPLE TO CARRY THE NAME, AND HE IS THE ONE WHO LIVED. The parish baptised a Mattheus on 9 April 1807; a Matteo Falco of this couple died on 28 August 1809 at «mesi quattordici», which puts that child's birth about June 1808. This archive has already published that those two cannot both describe one child. This act is a fourth date, five months after the 1809 burial, and it does not resolve the earlier pair — it shows the household gave the name again at the first opportunity, which is what it did with Raffaele and with Maddalena too.

AND THE NAME IS AN ARGUMENT. The same sentence calls his father «del FU MATTEO». A man whose father was Matteo, naming his son Matteo, five months after burying another Matteo. [[two-giovanni-falco]]”
