Petrus Jacobus Booyzen
HIS STONE IS READ AND IT CONFIRMS BOTH DATES EXACTLY: “HIER RUS — MY GELIEFDE SEUN — PIETER J. BOOYZEN — GEB. 29 DES. 1904 — OORL. 7 JUNIE 1937 — NA DIE KRUIS DIE KROON.” Dead at thirty-two. AND ONE WORD OF IT DOES REAL WORK: “MY geliefde seun”, not “ONS”. A stone cut by ONE surviving parent — and his mother Isabella Frederika had been dead seven years when he died, so the parent is his father, GERT JACOBUS, who then lay down beside them both fourteen years later. Three of one household in one cemetery, and the grammar of the inscriptions gives the order they went in. Baptised in the Dutch Reformed register with a Z, son of Gert Jacobus Booyzen and Isabella Frederika Coetzee — the second marriage's line, at Middelburg, spelled Booyzen a year before the Indwe sheet.

- 14 Sep 2026 — The Wonderboom deeds register showed a transfer from M. J. Booyzen, widow, to David Schalk Booyzen on 9 April 1907
The transferor is right and the date is not. Her gravestone at Rebecca Street, Pretoria, reads “MAGDALENA JOHANNA BOOYZEN (GEB. BEZUIDENHOUT), GEB. 8 MEI 1870, OORL. 29 JAN 1955” — so the ledger's “8/5/1870” beside her name is HER BIRTH DATE, which identifies her beyond doubt. But her husband PETRUS JACOBUS BOOYZEN died on 25 MARCH 1947, so she was not a widow in 1907 and cannot have transferred anything as one that year. The 9 April 1907 read off that row belongs to a different row: the ledger's columns were mis-aligned in the reading. What survives is the identification; what is withdrawn is the date, and with it the suggestion that David Schalk Booysen could be carried to 1907. Where it stands →
Disputed
…FamilySearch carries a Dutch Reformed marriage of PETRUS JACOBUS BOOŸZEN and ANNA MARIA VAN DER MERWE dated 9 MARCH 1825, at Cape Town, indexed three separate times. Resolved RESOLVED, 13 September 2026. A Dutch Reformed baptism names DAVID SCHALK BOOIJZEN, born 12 DECEMBER 1806, as the son of Pieter Jacobus Booijzen and ANNA MARIA VAN DER MERWE — and he is first of the eight on the 1876 Sterfkennis. They were married BY 1806, so the 1805 marriage at Graaff-Reinet stands and the 1825 Cape Town record is a different couple of the same two very common names. It also rewrites the wall on the ancestor chart, which said “only a family tree puts her here”. It no longer does.…

…Her ten brothers and sisters were Carolina Deybella Margrietta Alletta, Cornelius, Maria Francina Cecilia (widow of Gert Olivier), Jan Dirk Abram Frans, Hercules Johannes , Christiaan Jacobus, Cornelia Elizabeth Gertruida (married James Ross), Benjamin Jacobus, Pieter Jacobus and Philip Rudolph. She had a brother called Hercules Johannes, and she married a man called Hercules Johannes. This archive notes that and does nothing with it. It is the kind of coincidence that invites a story, and there is no document behind any story it invites. The notice is signed by her widower, J. D. A. F.…

A dossier is every mention of a person anywhere in this archive, gathered automatically after the site is built and linked back to the page it appears on. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual — where two people share a name they share this page, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Nothing on a dossier page is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.
