Abelino LERENA (godfather, 1833)
A LERENA MAN OF SANCHO'S OWN GENERATION OR THE NEXT, found 14 September 2026. He stood godfather with Dominga Lerena at the Catedral in October 1833 to a child of Justa Pastora Lerena - so almost certainly her brother or cousin. The transcript renders him "Abelino Serena", one more instance of the S-for-L this archive has met before. AVELINO is also the forename attached to the LERENA TRAIBEL branch elsewhere in this archive, which is worth testing rather than assuming. THE AGE NOW FITS, WHICH IS NOT THE SAME AS PROOF. Avelino Lerena Fernandez, Sancho's son, is now dated to a birth of 1815 - so he was EIGHTEEN in October 1833. Young for a godfather and entirely possible, and he would have been standing for his own sister's child. STILL KEPT AS A SEPARATE ROW until a record joins them, for the reason the two Arturos exist in this archive. READ OFF THE PLATE 21 September 2026, AND THE PLATE SAYS LERENA, NOT SERENA. So the S-for-L in this row was the MACHINE'S, not the record's - the third time today an assertion about this family's spelling turned out to be a transcript artefact rather than a scribe's. The act reads 'Padrinos ABELINO LERENA y DOMINGA LERENA'. AND THE CO-GODPARENT MATTERS MORE THAN THE SPELLING. He did not stand alone: he stood with DOMINGA LERENA, and Dominga Josefa Llerena Fernandez is a DOCUMENTED daughter of Sancho, baptised at Canelones on 15 May 1804. So the two at this font are a documented Sancho daughter and this man, at the baptism of a third Sancho daughter's child. That is corroboration from 1833 for a parentage the 1858 acts settled - twenty-five years earlier and from a different parish. It is still not proof: a cousin can stand beside a sister.
No record here names a parent, spouse, child or sibling for this person. This archive calls that unplaced: held, named, shown with the record that produced them, and not tied to a household on anything less.
