Dona Justiniana LENGUAS Gonzalez
Mother of the LERENA LENGUAS, and named as such in TWO acts read here: her son Luis Eugenio's marriage of 19 December 1864, at which she was also a witness, and her granddaughter Laura Adela's baptism of 1869, which calls her one of the "abuelos paternos". Her sister SIXTA LENGUAS GONZALEZ married Dr Candido Juanico - so the Lenguas married into both houses, and Sixta stood godmother to Laura Adela in 1869. That she was the second wife of Luis Lerena y Fernandez, and a daughter of Gen. Pedro Lenguas Grandal, is SECONDARY. SHE WAS ALIVE ON 24 DECEMBER 1901, AGED 79, and in the house where her son died. His death act No. 216 records her "de setenta y nueve anos, de profesion labores, domiciliada accidentalmente en la calle Suarez No. 25" - which puts her birth about 1822 and has her outliving Luis Eugenio. AND BY 1908 SHE WAS LIVING IN ARGENTINA, AGED 87. Her grandson Jose Julio's birth registration of that year describes her "de ochenta y siete anos, oriental, viuda, labores, RESIDENTE EN LA REPUBLICA ARGENTINA". She was 79 and in Montevideo when her son died in 1901; seven years later the matriarch of this family had crossed the river - and her son GILBERTO had moved to Buenos Aires between 1887 and 1889. HER OWN PARENTS ARE NOW IN AN ACT: "Maternos: el GENERAL D. PEDRO LENGUAS y Carmen Gonzalez". And that settles a question this archive had never been able to answer: SIXTA LENGUAS, the second wife of Dr Candido Juanico, has the very same parents on her 1884 death registration - so JUSTINIANA AND SIXTA ARE SISTERS. When Luis Eugenio married Julia Juanico in December 1864, the groom's maternal AUNT was already the bride's STEPMOTHER. The families had been joined since 1857. HER MARRIAGE ACT, 3 MARCH 1842: "Justiniana Lenguas, natural de la Ciudad de Montevideo, de VEINTE anos de edad, hija legitima del Sr. GRAL. Lenguas y Dona Carmen Gonzalez." Twenty years old, so born about 1822 - agreeing exactly with her stated 79 in 1901 and 87 in 1908. She was her husband's SECOND wife; he was a widower of a Dona Carolina. AND SHE WAS ALREADY A WIDOW IN 1895, aged 73, living in Gilberto's Buenos Aires house - "Lenguas de L. Justiniana, m, 73, VIUDA, R. Oriental" on the schedule of Seccion 21, Manzana 15. So DON LUIS LERENA WAS DEAD BY 1895, which closes his death window to 1850-1895. She was in Argentina thirteen years earlier than the 1908 evidence this archive had.
