Ema Sixta LERENA Juanico

Married JOSE PEDRO MASSERA (1866-1942), professor of philosophy at the Universidad de la Republica and later a Colorado senator; their son was the mathematician Jose Luis Massera. The witnesses at her wedding were her sister Maria and her brother-in-law Jaime Herrera - the couple of the 1886 act. Aged thirty-three on the act, so born about 1880; a findmypast index says 1876. She is the "Emma Liseta, 1876, father Luis, mother Julia" copied from a findmypast index on 9 September, four days before the family was identified. Named SIXTA for Sixta Lenguas Gonzalez, her mother's stepmother. HER BIRTH DATE IS NOW SETTLED AT 21 NOVEMBER 1876, not c.1880. Three independent records agree: the civil birth registration of 30 May 1903, the Uruguay Baptisms index, and her christening at the Catedral on 8 January 1881. The c.1880 came from her stated age at marriage in 1913, and ages at marriage are the weakest date in genealogy. HER MARRIAGE DISPENSATION IS FOUND, 14 September 2026, and it is a NINTH Lerena dispensation this archive's own sweep of that register had missed. On 19 June 1913 Jose Pedro Massera petitioned the Provisor to be dispensed "una conciliar proclama" in order to marry "Dona EMA SIXTA LERENA JUANICO, FELIGRESA DE LA METROPOLITANA", the date of the wedding being already fixed - it took place eleven days later. The sweep missed her because its formula was "LERENA FELIGRESA" and her COMPOUND SURNAME sits between those two words.
