Amelia LERENA (m. Eduardo ZALSAMENDI)

A LERENA WOMAN found 14 September 2026 in the baptism of her son Luis at San Juan Bautista, Pocitos, Montevideo, 15 August 1903 (born 21 June 1903), "hijo legitimo de Eduardo Del [S]uando y Amelia Lerena". HER PARENTS ARE GIVEN AS "AVELINO y CELIDONIA B. de LERENA" - which is a problem worth stating rather than smoothing over. This archive's Avelino Lerena Fernandez married AMBROSIA TRAIBEL and died in 1890. Either he had a second wife, or Celidonia belongs to a DIFFERENT Avelino - and there are already two others in this register. NOT attached to anyone. SEARCHED AND NOT FOUND, 14 September 2026. The Uruguayan indexes hold several Amelia Lerenas and none is this woman: they belong to TRINIDAD, FLORES - daughters of DOROTEO LERENA and ISIDORA CARDOZO. So the AVELINO-and-CELIDONIA problem stands exactly where it was, and the 1903 Pocitos act remains the only record of her. A NOTE WORTH KEEPING THOUGH: the LERENA-CARDOZO pairing recurs. The 1911 dispensation has two Lerena siblings marrying two Cardozo siblings, and here is a Doroteo Lerena married to an Isidora Cardozo at Trinidad. The Trinidad kindred is already in this register. Two families that married each other more than once. HER HUSBAND'S SURNAME WAS NEVER 'DEL SUANDO'. READ OFF THE PLATE 21 September 2026. The act of 15 August 1903 at San Juan Bautista, Pocitos reads: 'bautice solemnemente a MARIA MARGARITA, que nacio el VEINTIUNO DE JUNIO de este ano; hija legitima de EDUARDO ZALSAMENDI y AMELIA LERENA. Abuelos paternos: JUAN ZALSAMENDI y DOLORES POU de ZALSAMENDI. Abuelos maternos: AVELINO [Lerena] y CELIDONIA B. de LERENA. Fueron padrinos ADOLFO LERENA y MARIA ANGELICA YUBIA.' So the machine gave DEL SUANDO and the page gives ZALSAMENDI, a Basque name this archive would never have reached by searching for the other. The initial letter is read as Z and could be S, since SALSAMENDI is the commoner spelling of the same surname and this hand will not settle it. And the act names a Lerena man this register did not hold: the godfather ADOLFO LERENA, standing at her daughter's font - very likely her brother, and entered here as his own row.
