Dominga Josefa LLERENA Fernandez (b.1804)
A DAUGHTER OF SANCHO LLERENA AND MARIA FERNANDEZ, and now dated: born 13 May 1804 at Canelones, baptised two days later. "Una parvula de dos dias nacida, a la cual puso por nombre Dominga Josefa, hija legitima de Sancho Llerena y de Maria Fernandez; fueron los padrinos Joseph Ponteceli y Agueda Rivero, TODOS VECINOS DE LA MISMA VILLA." She is the DOMINGA LERENA who stood godmother at the Catedral de Montevideo in October 1833 to her sister Justa Pastora's child - aged twenty-nine. The archive guessed "almost certainly her sister or cousin"; she is the sister. A SISTER OF DON LUIS LERENA. A CAUTION ADDED 14 September 2026, AND NOT RESOLVED. Two indexed records name a Dominga, daughter of Sancho and Maria Fernandez, with DIFFERENT HUSBANDS: one "Dominga Lorena" married to ANTONIO RODRIGUEZ with a son Domingo (ark 1:1:6D7C-5X1Y), and one "Dominga Llarena" married to ANTONIO RUIZ DE CARVALLO with a daughter Lucinda Gregoria (ark 1:1:6DF7-HZPR). The image arks are adjacent, so the two acts are near neighbours in one register. That is either ONE WOMAN WHO MARRIED TWICE, ONE MAN WHOSE NAME IS WRITTEN TWO WAYS, or TWO SISTERS OF THE SAME FORENAME - and this archive has been caught by exactly that shape twice, with the two Arturos and the three Josefas. Both husbands being ANTONIO is suggestive and is not proof. NEITHER IMAGE OPENED; NOTHING MERGED INTO THIS ROW. See data/sancho-children-complete.tsv. Note also that a DONA DOMINGA CARVALLO stood godmother at a Lerena font in 1850, which makes the CARVALLO husband worth reading rather than assuming. THE CAUTION ABOVE IS NOW HALF ANSWERED - ON AN ACT, the same afternoon it was written. The Catedral baptism of 12 May 1827 reads: "Lucinda Gregoria del Corazon de Jesus, que nacio en veinte y cuatro de Abril ultimo, hija legitima del CAPITAN DON ANTONIO RUIZ DE CARVALLO, y de DONA DOMINGA LLERENA DE CARVALLO. Nieta Paterna del MAYOR DON JOAQUIN RUIZ DE CARVALLO y de la finada Dona Juana Suarez; MATERNA DE SANCHO LLERENA Y DE DONA MARIA FERNANDEZ." So Sancho's daughter Dominga married a CAPTAIN, son of a MAJOR - and the godfather was EXCELENTISIMO SENOR GENERAL DON FRANCISCO DE PAULA MAGGESI. A second general at a Lerena font. AND IT IDENTIFIES A WOMAN THIS ARCHIVE COULD NOT PLACE: the "DONA DOMINGA CARVALLO" who stood godmother at Alberto Octavio Lerena's baptism in 1850 is almost certainly this woman - Dominga Llerena de Carvallo, standing for her brother's son. Not merged, because the 1850 act gives her only as Carvallo; but the two rows should be read together. THE OTHER DOMINGA RECORD - the one naming a husband ANTONIO RODRIGUEZ and a son DOMINGO - IS STILL UNRESOLVED and its image is still unopened. One woman twice married, or a sister of the same name. AND THEN FULLY RESOLVED, an hour later, BY OPENING THE SECOND IMAGE. THE TWO HUSBANDS ARE ONE MAN. "Antonio Rodriguez" and "Antonio Ruiz de Carvallo" are the same Antonio DE CARVALLO, whose first surname the registers write RUIZ in 1827 and RODRIGUEZ in 1840, and whose father is JOAQUIN in both. THERE IS ONE DOMINGA, AND SHE IS THIS ONE. Her known children are LUCINDA GREGORIA (b. 24 April 1827) and DOMINGO (b. 4 August 1840) - thirteen years apart, so there are almost certainly others between them. TWO DISCREPANCIES RECORDED RATHER THAN SMOOTHED: 1827 makes Antonio a CAPITAN and his father a MAYOR and names the mother DONA JUANA SUAREZ, "la finada"; 1840 gives no ranks, makes Antonio a native of RIO GRANDE in Brazil with parents from the COLONIA DEL SACRAMENTO, and names the mother DONA JUANA DEL ESPIRITU SANTO. A devotional epithet and a surname can belong to one woman - Juana del Espiritu Santo Suarez - and that is a reading, not a finding. AND SHE IS IN THE 1836 CENSUS, found 20 September 2026: household 114, 'Dominga Serena', 28, Montevideo, CASADA, with D. Antº R. Carballo - her husband Capitan Antonio Ruiz de Carvallo - entered Continente, casado, HACENDADO, and two unmarried daughters, LUCINDA (the Lucinda Gregoria baptised 12 May 1827) and DOMINGA CARBALLO, named for her mother. The census gives her age as 28 against her baptism of 13 May 1804, which would make her 32 - four years out, on an age a householder gave. A third daughter, JOSEFA CARBALLO, was born and lived in RIO DE JANEIRO and married Miguel Carlos Lemus of Rio at San Francisco de Asis on 24 July 1862 (ark 1:1:X9PN-PYNH) - so this family spent time in Brazil, which is ground this archive has never touched.
