Dona Carolina ORIBE (1st wife of Don Luis Lerena)
HER SURNAME IS ORIBE, AND THIS ARCHIVE RECORDED IT WRONG TWICE. She was written here as Carolina OLIVA, from the 1836 marriage petition and from FamilySearch's index of it - which says Oliva, and which is where the reading came from. The Catedral baptism of 4 July 1837, a different book in a different hand, names her "Dna CAROLINA ORIBE" standing godmother with her husband to his brother's child. The 1836 petition was then re-opened and magnified: it reads ORIBE there too, with a clear b. And the published genealogy this archive has always tiered as SECONDARY said all along that Don Luis married firstly a daughter of an ORIBE. It was right. She married Luis Lerena at Montevideo in September 1836, was ALIVE IN JULY 1837, and was dead by March 1842 when he remarried "en segundas nupcias". ORIBE is one of the great Uruguayan names - Manuel Oribe was President 1835-1838 and founder of the Blancos - but NOTHING READ HERE MAKES HER HIS KIN. Oribe is a surname, not a proof, and no record yet names her parents. PLACE FIELD CORRECTED 14 September 2026. This row's 'where found' held a CITATION - an empty placeholder - where the atlas expects a PLACE, so this person was missing from the map and appeared on it as a phantom location instead. The citation is kept here; the field now holds a real place.
No record here names a parent, spouse, child or sibling for this person. This archive calls that unplaced: held, named, shown with the record that produced them, and not tied to a household on anything less.
