Nicolas BENTENO
NOT A RELATIVE - recorded because of who stood at his daughter's font. "INDIO NATURAL DE LA CIUDAD DEL TUCUMAN", living at Montevideo, married to Leonarda Correa of Buenos Aires. At the baptism of their daughter JUANA on 30 June 1789 the godfather was SANCHO LLERENA - the earliest record of Sancho anywhere in this archive, fifteen years before Canelones and two years before his own marriage. It is the second time he is found sponsoring at the margins of colonial society; in 1804 he stood godfather to an enslaved man. READ OFF THE PLATE 21 September 2026. Film 007713375 image 00551, Iglesia Matriz de Montevideo, 30 June 1789 - and this is the EARLIEST record of Sancho in this archive. Siendo testigo AGUSTIN DONCEL.' SANCHO IS SPELLED LLERENA HERE, WITH THE DOUBLE L, IN 1789 - which is how the 1811 and 1831 acts spell him and not how 1837, 1858 or 1806 do. Every word of this row survives the plate: 'INDIO NATURAL DE LA CIUDAD DEL TUCUMAN', his wife 'LEONARDA CORREA de BUENOS AIRES', and the two of them 'AVECINDADOS EN LOS PROPIOS DE ESTA CIUDAD'.
No record here names a parent, spouse, child or sibling for this person. This archive calls that unplaced: held, named, shown with the record that produced them, and not tied to a household on anything less.
