This archive had her as a probable sixth child built out of a year, a town and a surname: a CATHARINA WILHELMINA KOLBE marrying JOHANNES PETRUS PIENAAR at Bloemfontein on 8 October 1860, born 1843, on a record that does not name her parents. One document now carries the whole chain. Her civil death registration — Orange Free State, Births & Deaths Registration Proclamation 1902, sections 27 and 39 — gives FATHER: JAN GERSEM ELIEZER KOLBE, STOCK FARMER, and MOTHER: ANNA JACOBA. AND FIELD SEVEN SETTLES THE MARRIAGE THAT MADE HER FINDABLE. The form asks, of a woman married more than once, to state to whom; the answer written is PIENAAR. So the Pienaar of 1860 and the Anderson she died as are one woman, and the user tree’s clumsy “Pienaar Anderson” was reporting two marriages in order rather than inventing a double surname. THE REST OF THE FORM: Dutch, born in the Cape Colony, a housewife, of Veelroem in the district of Ladybrand; dead on 3 February 1909 of heart disease and dropsy after an illness of one year and six months; buried at Veelroem; the doctor Dr Hofmeyr. HER SON REGISTERED IT AND HIS NAME IS THE CORROBORATION. The informant, present at the death, signs JAN G. E. ANDERSON — his grandfather’s three names entire, on a form that names that grandfather four lines above. TWO SMALL THINGS THE FORM GOT WRONG, KEPT BECAUSE THEY ARE THE DOCUMENT. Field 15 asks for the mother’s maiden surname and was given her married one, KOLBE, after a crossed-out word; she was born VAN DER MERWE. And her year of birth here is 1844 where the 1860 marriage record implies 1843 — an age at death is not a birth certificate, and neither is a marriage clerk’s arithmetic.
Frederik Fortunatus is here on a user tree's word and nothing else. His death registration names no parents — that line of the form is completed only for a deceased under ten — and the register of his baptism has not been found. He is drawn in because two of his children were baptised to a McCabe mother in the same congregation, which is corroboration and not proof.
