Maria de las Mercedes MORATORIO Lerena
Daughter of Fernando Moratorio and Josefa Lerena Traibel, baptised at the Catedral Basilica de Montevideo on 8 March 1880 with her sister. Her godmother was MERCEDES LERENA, for whom she is named. READ OFF THE PLATE 21 September 2026, where this row had rested on a MACHINE TRANSCRIPT. Film 007713378 image 02598, folios 411-412, Catedral Basilica de Montevideo - the two baptisms of 8 March 1880. Priest RAFAEL YEREGUI. SHE AND HER SISTER WERE BOTH BORN 24 FEBRUARY 1880 - read off both acts. 'que nacio el veinte y cuatro de Febrero ultimo, hija legitima de Fernando Moratorio y Josefa Le[rena] ... fueron padrinos JUAN [Arechaga y Mercedes] LERENA'. So the twins reading is right here and was wrong in 1858, where Ana Rosario and Alfredo Justiniano were carried to the same font twenty-one months apart. Same family, same habit of batch-baptism, and the shared date means something in one case and nothing in the other - which is exactly why it had to be read rather than assumed. AND THE PARISH WAS WRONG, CORRECTED 21 September 2026 OFF THE PLATE. This archive placed these 1880 baptisms at the UNION, which is what the index's place field says. The act itself reads 'con licencia del infrascripto Cura Parroco DE ESTA BASILICA MENOR Y CATEDRAL DE MONTEVIDEO, bautice solemnemente EN ELLA a Maria Carlota'. They were baptised in the CATEDRAL BASILICA, not at the Union.
