Josefa LERENA TRAIBEL (1851-1947)

DAUGHTER OF AVELINO LERENA AND AMBROSIA TRAIBEL - which places the LERENA TRAIBEL branch this archive has named since its first week. Died 2 April 1947 at Montevideo, aged NINETY-SIX. A STRONG CANDIDATE for the Josefa Lerena who stood godmother at the Catedral in 1885 and for the "Lerena de L. Josefa, 43, viuda" in Gilberto's 1895 Buenos Aires household - the ages agree within a year. DELIBERATELY NOT MERGED WITH THEM: this archive conflated two Arturo Lerenas in the same week and had to retract a branch within the hour. See data/josefa-lerena-candidates.tsv for what fits and what is untested. AND SHE MARRIED A MORATORIO, NOT A LERENA - NOW ON A PARISH ACT. Uruguayan civil registration names a Josefa Lerena as mother of Josefa, Eduardo and Maria MORATORIO LERENA, "Spouses: Fernando Moratorio", and the FamilySearch tree attaches that woman to this one. The marriage records are index-level and real; the link between the two women is a TREE ATTACHMENT and therefore SECONDARY. THE TREE ATTACHMENT IS NO LONGER NEEDED: the baptisms of her daughters MARIA CARLOTA and MARIA DE LAS MERCEDES MORATORIO LERENA at the Catedral Basilica de Montevideo on 8 March 1880 name the parents "Fernando Moratorio y Josefa Lerena" and the maternal grandparents "AVELINO y AMBROSIA TRAIBEL". So the Moratorio wife and the daughter of Avelino are one woman, on a document. AND HER CLAIM ON THE 1895 WIDOW IS WEAKER THAN THIS ROW MAKES IT SOUND, 20 September 2026. The enumerator writes wives as [maiden surname] "de L.", so his "Lerena de L." married a LERENA - and this woman married a MORATORIO, which the sentence above establishes from a parish act. Either the reading of the abbreviation is wrong, or the 1895 widow is somebody else. The two candidacies this row claims - the 1885 godmother and the 1895 widow - are not equally strong, and nothing here had said so. SHE HAS A BIRTH DAY, 21 September 2026: 10 FEBRUARY 1851. Her own baptismal act was found and read: 'bautice solemnemente a una nina a quien puse por nombre JOSEFINA LERENA, que nacio el DIEZ DE FEBRERO DEL ANO PROXIMO PASADO, hija legitima de Avelino Lerena y Ambrosia Traibel'. The act is of 1852; the archive had her year from her 1947 death registration, which is age-derived, and now has the day from the record of her christening. Godparents Don Miguel Carlos Correa de Lemus and Josefa Corbelle de Lemus; priest Domingo Ereno. AND HER NAME AT THE FONT IS JOSEFINA, NOT JOSEFA - which matters to every search that has been run on her. See data/1852-aguada-union-certificates.tsv. AND HER BAPTISM HAS A DAY TOO, within the hour: 5 DECEMBER 1852. The opening of her act sits on the previous image, 02849, where the archive had not looked: 'Jose Heimen, Cura Vicario de esta Parroquia de San Agustin en la Villa de la Union, certifica: que en el LIBRO PRIMERO DE BAUTISMOS AL FOLIO 212 se halla una partida del tenor siguiente: En cinco de Diciembre de mil...' - and the sentence finishes 'ochocientos cincuenta y dos' at the top of image 02850. So she was born 10 February 1851 and baptised at twenty-two months. Her certificate is No. 148 of seven the family lodged together in November 1896.
