The grave at Crikvenica is inscribed <em>ANA DE. FRANCESCHI ✻ 19 IX 1863 ✝ 28 V 1936</em>. The death is exactly right. The birth is not. Her baptism survives: <em>Anno Domini 1864</em>, no. 2 — <em>Anna, legitima, Josephus Kalanj et Rosalia nata Perković ejus uxor, Brinjensis parochiae ruricolae</em>, at <span class='mono'>Klenovica N° 22</span>, born <strong>3 January 1864</strong> and baptised three days later on 6 January. A register written within the week beats a stone cut after 1936, so the tree's date stands and the stone is the error. Ana's 1864 baptism gives her parents as Josephus Kalanj and Rosalia nata Perković at Klenovica 22 — the same couple the tree gives Martin (b. 8 November 1861, Klenovica 22). They are brother and sister. The confirmation arrives from an unexpected direction: at Zora Kalanj's baptism in 1898, Martin's daughter, the godparents are entered as <em>Josip i Ana Defrancesco</em> — that is Ana herself and her husband, the child's aunt and uncle.
