They are not where this site said they were

Šestan was described here as “of the Croatian Littoral”. Twenty-three of the twenty-four placed Šestani are at Gologorica, in central Istria — a different peninsula, eighty miles west of Senj, and nowhere near the Velebit littoral where every other family on this site lives. No marriage joins them to anyone here

Not one Šestan marries into any of the other eight families. Their marriages go to Defranceschi — three of them — and then to Depras, Androšić, Krišmanić and Gašparić. Defranceschi is Hedviga's husband's family, not hers.

The path, in full

The shortest route from Hedviga to the nearest Šestan is eleven steps: out through Ivan Defranceski to his father Ante, to Josip de Franceschi, to Antonius, to Giovanni Battista, to Teresa Grach, to an unnamed spouse, and then across a node entered in the tree as Grah's for Investigation (not real), to Gologorica Grah, to Josephus Grah, to Rosa Šestan.

Remove that one node and there is no path at all. Every one of the fifty-five becomes unreachable. What this archive is doing about it

Keeping them, and marking every one. The method here is to report the tree rather than edit it, and these are real records of real people at Gologorica between 1780 and 1947 — the doubt is about the join, not about them. Deleting fifty-five people to make a statistic look better would be the opposite of what this archive is for.

So all fifty-five now carry a notice at the head of their own page saying that every route from Hedviga to them passes through a sorting label. A reader should not meet these names on a site about a woman from Senj without being told what connects them to her — and equally should not be told they are fictitious, because nothing here suggests that.
