What Rests on a Document

Every page here says what its evidence is, person by person. Nobody had added it up. Of 70 people on Hedviga's direct line, 19 have had a record read out, 12 have an image nobody has read, 20 appear only in somebody else's record, and 19 rest on the family tree alone.

This page exists because of the kind of day 10 September 2026 was. Three joins on this spine were disputed in one sitting — a woman attached a generation too high, a man born after his own granddaughter, and a wife who died eight years before her wedding. When that much moves in a day, the honest total matters more than any single page.

The evidence stops at the sixth generation

Read the Read column downwards. It runs 0, 2, 4, 5, 3, 4 — and then 0, 0, 0. Beyond Hedviga's three-times-great-grandparents this archive has read nothing at all: everyone there is either named in someone else's entry or carried by the tree on its own word.

Two numbers worth sitting with

Seventy of a possible five hundred and eleven. Nine generations back from Hedviga is 511 people. This archive knows 70 of them — and by the seventh generation it holds 22 names out of 64, by the ninth, four out of 256. That is not a failure; it is what a Croatian village pedigree looks like when it is counted honestly rather than drawn as a tree.

31 of 70 have an image at all. The rest — 39 people — are known because a tree says so, or because a priest wrote filius Pauli in somebody else's baptism. That is exactly what the Latin genitives are: a man recorded as Pauli has no record of his own, only records that mention him.
