Married In

This archive follows four surnames and gives each a page. Hedviga's descent runs through more than twenty. The other nineteen carry forty-five direct ancestors between them and have had nowhere to live. If one of these is your family, this page is for you.

A pedigree names the men and loses the families. Every generation back, half of this descent arrives through a woman with a different surname — and those surnames are Uroda, Sekula, Jelličić, Bacchi, Gerkacs, Pekass, Orešković, Lončarić, Tomljanović and ten more. They are not minor. They are half of it.

They cluster by town, not by family

Sort them by where their people actually are, and the married-in surnames turn out to be a record of where the line was living at the time rather than a set of independent families. A line at Karlobag married Karlobag; a line at Selce married Selce.

What this page is honest about

Most of these families are one person deep. Fourteen of the nineteen are published here as three people or fewer — the ancestor, sometimes a parent, and nothing else. This archive has their name and their marriage and almost nothing of their life.
Several have no place at all. Sekula, Shambul Marić, Pećanić and Findrić are surnames attached to people with no recorded village — which is how a line ends without anyone noticing.
Two are not really separate families. Antić Papić is one man carrying two surnames at once, and question 5 turned on him; Smojver Vukić is an alias the Karlobag register writes out as Smojver, vulgo Vukich.
