KOLBE BORN 23 FEBRUARY 1836 IS EXACTLY THE RIGHT MAN IN EXACTLY THE RIGHT YEAR — and it would date his twin sister too. IT IS INITIALS AND A YEAR, NOT A NAME AND A PARENT, and this archive has spent today being careful about exactly this. It would also give the OTHER George Augustus Kolbe — born Burgersdorp 2 October 1861, dead Standerton 1934, buried Wakkerstroom — a plausible father aged twenty-five, which is the shape the eastern Transvaal Kolbes have been missing.
