Moncalvo di Pisino · Golgorizza

Gologorica

The family's documented seat. A De Franceschi house of 1711 still stands on the main square.

Municipality of Cerovlje, central Istria. Roman material has been found here, including a gravestone now in the Pazin museum. The parish church of Saints Peter and Paul carries Renaissance altars and a seventeenth-century baptismal font, and a small Romanesque chapel of the Blessed Virgin keeps fifteenth-century frescoes.

Carlo De Franceschi, the historian, was born here in 1809 — of modest landowners, in his own biographer's phrase, not of gentry. In October 1945 the village still held two Defranceschi families.
